Starters: Each student will be required to complete the “Starter of the Day” each day the class will begin with a starter primarily consisting of material covered the previous day. This starter assignment will be posted on the board with the day’s date and is to be completed within the first five minutes of class. After the first five minutes of class no students will be given time to finish the starter assignment. Each student will use a new Starter Form each week that will contain their name, the date, and the starter question along with the starter answer. Starters will be checked on every Friday and students will be given up to 25 points a week for starters (5 points for each starter). If you are absent you will need to get any missed starter from the daily assignment notebook. (The teacher will keep the daily assignment notebook and it will contain the daily starter and daily work that was completed).

Class Tardies: Tardies are not permitted and failure to arrive to class promptly may result in missed starter assignments. Excessive tardiness may result in further discipline.

Class Absences: It is the student’s responsibility to obtain any missed assignments due to absences and must complete the missed items including quizzes and exams immediately.

Note: According to the Pike County School System Attendance policy, every day the student has an excused absence, he/she will receive the same amount of time to complete makeup work, (i.e., day for a day policy). Every day past the allotted time will receive a deduction of 10 points per assignment, per day.

Don’t wait until mid-term reports or end of the nine weeks to make up your missed assignments. I will give you 3 days to make up daily work, however any missed exams or quizzes will need to be made up immediately upon returning to school.

Notebooks:  Students must bring a class notebook to class everyday. Each student will need to keep a notebook that will contain their daily work, weekly starters, all graded exams and quizzes, and lab reports/assignments. The notebook will also include the class syllabus and a table of contents (with assignment title and date). Notebooks will be collected and graded at random times throughout the year. Your science notebook will contain all of the information you will need to study for all exams/quizzes. Students are encouraged to use their notebooks when reviewing/studying for any quiz or exam. Notebook checks will be worth 100 points each time they are graded. Notebooks are graded at least one time during each 9 week grading period.*All students need to have their notebook for science class Friday August 19, 2011. This will be the 1st notebook grade worth 100 points.
